01 Why so few

Most pattern shops have hundreds of patterns. We release four to eight a year.

Kaavala began with a drawer of trend patterns, each used once and forgotten. So we do the opposite: a handful of clean, adaptable shapes, each designed to be sewn again and again. Linen for summer, cotton for winter, the same PDF for years.

01

Fewer, better

One small collection per season. Every shape earns its place and stays in the catalogue.

02

Written for beginners

Every step photographed, in plain words. No zips where a wide neckline will do. And a video course if you want company.

03

One pattern, many garments

Long or short sleeves, pockets or none, knee or ankle. Change the fabric and the dress changes season.

02 New for Summer 2026

This season: three new shapes.

All 14 patterns

03 How it works

From download to dress, in an evening or two.

  1. 1

    Choose

A pattern on its own, or a pattern with its video course if you'd like someone beside you.

  2. 2

    Download

The PDF arrives by email the moment you pay. A4 pages for home, an A0 file for a copy shop.

  3. 3

    Print & tape

Fifteen to thirty pages, ten minutes with tape. Or skip it and have the A0 printed.

  4. 4

    Sew along

Every step photographed, in plain English. With the course, every step on video too.

  5. 5

    Wear it

Then make it again in another fabric, next season. The pattern is yours for good.

04 The patterns

Who are you sewing for?

05 Pattern + video course

Never sewn before? We’ll sit beside you.

A course follows one pattern from the first pin to the last hem: which fabric to buy, how to lay out the pieces, how to gather a skirt, how to sew a pocket you’re proud of. Short videos, your own pace, twelve months of access.

  • Johanna PDF pattern, all sizes EU 34–52
  • Personal login to the course platform
  • Step-by-step video for every stage
  • 12 months of access, at your own pace
  • Private course group for questions and photos

I got so into it that I've now made two dresses, one with long sleeves, and a blouse as well. Thank you for a wonderful course.

It was lovely to sew the dress along with the videos. I got so many compliments when I wore it.

Inspiring and well taught, with a great atmosphere. I'd recommend it to any beginner, or to anyone unsure about sewing woven fabrics.

Aino dress in white linen, with a child on a rattan chair

07 Our story

It started in a grandfather’s atelier.

A girl watching her grandfather run a sewing workshop in Finland. A training as a clothing artisan. Ten years later, three children to sew for, and a drawer full of patterns used once. Kaavala is the answer to that drawer.
